Spring Fever? Adding Greenery Is the Cure
Sunshine and temperatures in the 70s in early March will lead to a full-blown case of Spring Fever every time. Unfortunately, the landscape around us hasn’t caught up yet. A few flowers are just now emerging, but the grass remains that washed out, dull green of winter. It will be several weeks before it’s replaced by the seemingly endless number of vibrant greens. To hold you over until then, consider adding some greenery inside your home. Houseplants are one idea; herbs that you can grow in small pots indoors (maybe transplant to your garden once it’s warm enough) are another.
But if you’re someone with no green thumbs and who forgets to water even the least needy of plants, consider going artificial. There’s a wide variety of looks, and you’ll be surprised at how real they can appear. Place them on a coffee table, side table, nightstand, a dresser, bookshelf, countertop, the ledge of your jetted tub, in the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, bedroom, living room . . . There is no place where a little bit of greenery won’t feel like a breath of fresh air. We have a good selection of faux stems and potted plants in the store right now — baby ferns, topiaries, succulents, tulips, daffodils, forsythia, dogwood flowers . . . Display them individually or as a grouping; if you are creating a grouping, use varying heights and textures.
You might also consider mixing real and artificial greenery in your house. Place the real plants where you can reach them (and will remember to water them) and the artificial ones in out-of-the-way spaces.
If you find that the greens of spring seem to improve your mood, you’re not imaging things. Studies have found that spending time in nature and surrounding yourself with flowers, plants and various kinds of greenery has a true mood-boosting effect. And the faux variety can have the same impact. So start counting down the days until spring (and all that lush green color) arrives officially, and in the meantime, surround yourself with plants and stems — real or artificial. We gathered just a few of the items we have in the store to inspire you. So if you’re ready to spring forward, we can help!
