Find Your Pot o’ Green
Spring Forward (and Boost Your Productivity, Creativity and Mental Health)
With the Season’s Favorite Color
It’s Spring Forward weekend, which means that starting Sunday evening, it will be daylight until 7 p.m. and later through early fall. There’s not much that’s more motivating and invigorating than an abundance of sunshine, but one of our favorite spring tips for boosting productivity and increasing happiness is surrounding yourself with greenery by adding plants or flowers to every room. Psychological research has found that the presence of green, leafy plants and flowers improves mood, enhances creativity and reduces stress. And the good news is that it doesn’t matter if the plants are live or faux — the benefits are real either way (as long as the faux plants look real enough). There was a time when most faux plants looked like plastic, even from a distance, but they’ve come a long way in recent years.
If you’re someone who was born with green thumbs, live plants and flowers are a great option (they help clean your indoor air!), but if you’re not, we say there’s no shame in using faux greenery. It always looks great, you never feel guilty about forgetting to water it (or overwatering it) and you can place them in hard to reach areas or even places in your home that don’t get a lot or any sunlight.
There’s no room in your house that wouldn’t benefit from adding plants or flowers (real or faux). They add both color and texture, two key design elements that soften a space and instantly make it feel more comfortable. We love plants in a home office or wherever you do your work, the master bathroom (since it’s where you most likely start your day) and the kitchen, but don’t forget about the bedrooms (even the kids’ bedrooms). Adding a plant may be just the thing to help you feel ready to face a new day, but also to relax before going to bed. Bookcases are another area where tucking in a small potted plant can make a big difference in the overall appearance.
We have a great selection of faux greenery and flowers in the store right now. There are different shades of green, styles of plants and size, so you can find something to fit every space. And if you’d like some advice, we’re here to help.
