Décor That Comforts and Soothes

There are few things more comforting than a good blanket. It’s why we give so many of them as baby gifts. But finding comfort in a blanket doesn’t have to end when you grow up. It just gets more sophisticated.

As adults, we call our blankets “throws,” and we don’t just use them for snuggling. We like making them a design feature. They are an easy and affordable way to change the look of a room. Like toss pillows, throws can bring a sense of cohesion to your space by carrying an accent color around the room. Draped over the arm of a sofa, the back of a chair or the end of a bed, throws can add an element of interest and texture to your space. We think throws with tassels look especially cool, and they would be a fun choice to use as tablecloth or runner, like we suggested a few weeks ago.

This time of year is all about throws, particularly the soft and fuzzy ones. They make curling up with a good book or binge-watching your favorite shows and movies that much better.  Add a glass of wine, and life is good!

But throws are practical too. You can keep the heat in your home turned down a little or even delay  turning on your furnace at all by keeping a few throws placed around the house where you need them.  And if you have pets who are prone to sleeping on your furniture, throws can serve as a stylish protective layer for your sofa or chair.

One of our favorite perks of throws is that they make excellent gifts! They are one of those things that no one can have too many of. Having extras on hand for when grandchildren visit is just plain smart, but even teens love a good, snuggly throw. And you don’t have to worry about size — a throw always fits! Keep that in mind as we head into the biggest gift-giving season of the year. But don’t stop at Christmas. Throws make perfect gifts for weddings, housewarmings and birthdays too. We have a couple of monogram styles that are super popular as gifts, but really, you can’t go wrong no matter what style you chose.
